Long Hours, Very Long Hours......

Hot blazing sunny day I can smell the scent of the spearmint fields Not far away Two of them sit on the ground Digging into the earth with their hands Digging into the rich pulsating brown earth Underneath their hats you cannot see their face Crouched with their backs to you Doubled up and planting new life Taking other out Not speaking a word between each other They continue for long hours Planting that plant called spearmint For them its a labour of love To others it might not seem that way. All my own words its about a big field of spearmint which is used in tea by the Moroccans and its their custom to do so. They have worked really long hours in that field with no tractor or hose pipes to put water in there or anything else except their hands. Because its hand grown spearmint it should fetch them a good price at least I hope so. Goodness knows if most people could do what they do with their backs doubled up Father and Son.

I was believing that you could not grow organic mint several years at the same place ? It is impoverishing soils and without any fertilizer, it is "moving" every year to find the right nutrients. Very nice poem, I feel how warm is the sun and how hard is the work

The other Moroccan people told me that its organic well you only have to see them doing all that by hand and of course they only plant it twice a year and its their own field. The others dedicate themselves to destroying the very said soil you could not even grow a mere thistle there any more and what they use is harming the other fields too as the other guy who had a very nice field for hay gave up in the end he had an old ramshackle tractor but knows the land very well. I just thank goodness I don´t buy any of that greenstuff they grow there. Thank you tops its just a bit of a tribute to them and their very hard work. They were getting the water from a guy whose back garden is right in front of them as the well water is much purer than the other smelly water.

@topffer Do they spit in the tea pot? Something I did not know either thanks for that bit of info. I hope they only do that for themselves maybe its for good luck and one for the pot. Yes he gave them the water and he pinched the soil off their land which must be very good as you should see the roses he was growing from it all. Sort of you scratch my back and I will scratch yours. I was sorry to see that other farmer go and his rolls of hay that smelled glorious as it was made of wild grass and wild flowers and he is one very smart guy who knows a lot about the land and creatures and dogs. The Moroccans here are very respectful people and keep to themselves but they will speak to you and say hello. Que aproveches your dinner tops catch everyone later on if I can.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Water did some miracle for this mint. I like Moroccan tea, but I put less sugar than them. And I do not spit in the tea pot.

Fine thank you and reliving the memories of the scent of the spearmint field as when the wind was blowing a certain direction you could smell it right from your house almost. Have a great weekend ahead.

I had no idea how spearmint was grown or harvested. I guess I'd never thought about it.

I used to see them a lot doing just that all by hand. I just don´t know how they managed to work so long but hope they managed to sell all of it. I don´t have a photo at hand but spearmint in a photo looks like a load of green leaves and that is it.
