I Had A Discussion With Little Miss

She made a last minute change of plans after we had made plans for the week so I explained to her that though I will always be there for her, we couldn’t keep doing this, that I wasn’t going to make a special trip into town at a later date simply to get her an iTunes card, and that movie night was only going to happen this week!
I will of course get her the things she needs, and I got her snacks, but I am not going out of my way to get an iTunes card! If she had an appointment or something that I would understand but she made plans even her Mother did not know about until the last minute. So she’s not getting her ITunes card or her allowance until she understands that these things need to be communicated before hand, and they need to be communicated without Sass!
Like I said if this were something to deal with school, this would be different but it’s to deal with an iTunes card. Not to mention we have discussed my feelings and the dangers of Tik Tok, and she’s not been showing her Mother what she’s posting!
She’s generally a good kid, but ugh this preteen thing is fun!

I have a 13 year old who just got her phone taken away for things we found on social media that was a secret from us! It was shocking and sad. =(
These lessons must be learned while they are still young.

Yes I actually had her sit down and watch a show on what can happen on Social Media if you are not careful!

And what we did at that age stayed within a small group of people, now its world wide for all to see.

@andriaperry Yes and I have to remind her of that, we live in a far different world now than as when we were younger!

I wouldn't want to raise a child these days...

I don't think raising children is any more difficult than it ever was before. PARENTING has changed. The kids haven't. I say, let's bring back corporal punishment. A few tanned butts never hurt anyone and kids did behave better knowing there might be actual consequences to things.

@porwest She's not my kid, so corporal punishment was out, discipline was definitely a thing...

I am not fond of the social media for kids, although I did let my daughter have it at that age, but i had the password, friended her and got to see the posts, where were nothing bad.
Social media causes problems and today there is a lot of bullies and everything else there.

@Michellekidwell exactly right, and I don't like games where they play online and play with someone who says they are a teen, you just never know.

Thankfully I am more technologically savy than her Mom, so I am
Able to check things! I have to remind her that though her intentions may be good not everyone’s are!

You did right. Set boundaries and keep them.

Definitely! She knows the boundaries, she’s just thinking that I’m not going to react when she pushes the boundaries!

I love how you have empowered yourself as an adult and have made the girl understand the value of things, and that situations will not always be in your favor as they expect it, it is good and I congratulate you, it is seen that you have raised with values and discipline, while making it a responsible, empathetic and humble being, who will not be selfish or spoiled, but will know how to wait and define that everything has a time in life. You're doing it right.

Sounds like your getting into deeper woods. This time of life often makes pre-teens suddenly think they know it all and they are boss of their own life. I am sure if you communicate the problems to her now you might be able to avoid great problems in the future. Personally, I think it's bad that her mom has no idea what she's posting.,

Her Mom isn’t really Internet Savy but I am, so I talked to her about it and a couple of weeks ago we watched a show about the dangers of Social Media!
