I really like the way Independence (MO) police officer Holt thinks that based on his experience, the tensions between minorities and police officers is based on what people see on the evening news which in his view is being blown out of proportion. Recently Officer Holt took a photograph of 14 year old teen Tyrea who got out of the van that he was riding in with his mom Ebony to take off his coat to cover the back of an elderly lady who was being drenched by a thunderstorm to her auto. Officer Holt was able to identify the teenager as the person who went beyond the call of duty to assist a stranger get to her auto safe and sound. The police officer decided to repay the good deed by Tyrea by inviting him and his mother Ebony to dinner as a his way of thanking them for caring for people in need in Independence recently. It is one good way to build trust between the police and the citizens of his hometown.

@Deepizzaguy I wish all police officers acted like Officer Holt.

I admit that it ticks me off when the press "makes" news, rather than reporting it. They "want" there to be racial tensions so they can report about it and be "important." Most people treat each other well, regardless of race, etc. Thanks for a happy story.

What a very kind thing to do - and to a very considerate boy and his mum.

I like the way that Officer Holt rewarded Ebony and her son for assisting a stranger who needed his help to get into her auto during a rainstorm.

Officer Holt is doing his part to make his hometown trust the police despite the negative publicity the media showers on the police on their news reports which angers him since he knows that it will fan some flames for no good reason.
