Food Waste Friday 9.6.19

I haven't done one of these in a long time, but since I am getting back into the swing of writing regularly I felt like doing one today. Since I was going to be cleaning the fridge out anyway, it seemed like a good idea to start today. So today was a pretty big day for waste. We had some things that had been in the fridge that not one of us have touched so I figured it was time to get rid of. I have a rule, which I've had or while that if it sits in the fridge for longer than two days without being touched (for leftovers), that it gets thrown away so the ham from the other night gets thrown away today too. So the waste for this Friday is: -1/2 or a little less of a 3 pound sprial honey baked ham. -2 packages of baby rope sausage, one was open and partially used, the other just expired and I don't want to take chances. -5 Ball Part Hotdogs -1/2 mini Gatorade -2 1/4 bottles of Chocolate Milk -Pineapple Juice (who even drinks that stuff, we dont) -1/2 container of chicken broth -Peach mango juice, we dont drink this either. Dont know where it came from or why its here. -4 garlic cloves -Bait worms, they've died before we have gotten a chance to use them So there's the waste for this week. It was a little worse than I thought it was going to be, but its been overdue for me to clean out the fridge and I already feel better about it. How often do you clean out your fridge? What is your rule on keeping and throwing out leftovers?

Weird, I posted an answer and everything dissapeared. Anyway, I wrote I clean my fridge as needed, plus once a week before shopping. Leftovers usually go in bf's lunch.

That's not too bad it could be worse. My plan for Monday on my day off is to clean out our freezer and get rid of old stuff to make room for new stuff and clean out the fridge. I've slowly been doing that when I know something is bad but needs to be done again. I hate wasting but like you if things our in the fridge more then 5 days like left overs then they get thrown out.

Because our fridge is rarely full, it's relatively easy for me to keep track of what's good and bad. Sauces are the most common thing that I have to dice.
