After a two-day layoff, we now return to our regularly scheduled programming. 50 songs with "of" in the title (a very creative concept, or very lazy? Take your pick!) Ranked in no particular order, we are at #29: "Policy of Truth" by Depeche Mode. Is honesty ALWAYS the best policy? Well, no, not according to Depeche Mode songwriter Martin Gore, or William Batchelder Greene, from whom Gore got a little lyrical assistance while penning "Policy of Truth." (Who the F-Bomb is William Batchelder Greene?) Don't worry, I see you back there with your hand up. William Batchelder Greene was an American Civil War commander (colonel,) abolitionist (despite being a democrat, which as you might or might not be aware, the Democratic Party's platform back then was more in line with that of today's Republican Party, and vice versa. It was actually the Democratic Party that founded the KKK, while Abraham Lincoln was a Republican,) individualist anarchist, Utilitarian minister, and a heavy proponent of free banking in the United States. He also wrote the following: "Hide what you have to hide, And tell what you have to tell. You'll see your problems multiplied If you continually decide To faithfully pursue The policy of truth." Which Martin Gore used verbatim in his lyrics. (Yes, I did a bit of digging.) "Policy of Truth" was the third single from the band's 1990 international smash album, Violator (the title is a humorous poke at heavy metal album titles.) Although the single did not perform as well as it's two predecessors ("Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence,) it remains the only Depeche Mode single to chart higher on the Billboard Hot 100 than in the UK. And that my friends, is the absolute truth. (Info verified by Wikipedia, Steemit)

Just going with it based on what I'm feeling that moment. Not really ranking them in any logical order.

Yeah Democrats and Republicans flipped when civil rights happened. Where Dixie Democrats came from. I was reading how it was not the first time. Did in 1860's also I guess. Maybe it is a 100 year thing and they will flip in 2060. I am not sure if agree with song but do know truth hurts.

@teamfreak16 Yep, Abraham Lincoln always a great escape also. Even Bill Maher said, ok, so parties flipped but lets pretend they did not, don't you think if have to go that far back to find a good Republican your party is in trouble. .

A flip that the racists always conveniently omit whenever they try to pin the KKK on the Democratic Party.

@teamfreak16 At first I thought they sounded a little bit like INXS.
