We're Going To Have A Power Failure

Canada
September 7, 2019 2:15pm CST
Hurricane Dorian is poised to make landfall in Nova Scotia and it is raining hard outside and the wind is whipping things about. Coming back from church today we counted two trees down. Nothing serious though. We've already had the power go out and come back on four times. More than just a blink. The Internet is in and out so I don't know if I'll get a chance to post this. We aren't in the direct path of the storm here but we are supposed to get a lot of rain. No worries. We just might not be able to communicate with the outside world for awhile.

I hope the situation doesn't deteriorate and that you all stay safe.

It did deteriorate but we did stay safe. No electricity for nearly three days was inconvenient. There was some serious damage nearby. One of my friends had a barn collapse. Trees are down all over the place but locally they didn't fall on anything. The marina in Shediac got trashed and they were further from the storm than we were. I haven't checked reports but the damage is likely in the millions.

@JudyEv We don't have a big freezer and we did manage our foods stocks without losing anything. Many people in Nova Scotia lost a lot of food.

@koopharper Three days would be inconvenient. Do you have a big freezer and if so, did you lose food? I'm sorry about the damage. It would be so difficult trying to clear up such a mess.

We got off easy except the power did go out as predicted and didn't come back until around noon today.

The bank that I work for is closed in your province because of the storm. I hope that you stay safe.

Actually we're just next to Nova Scotia in New Brunswick right close to the border. Hoping for no wind damage.

We watched the storm from afar. Happy to hear that our family and friends were mostly unscathed. The fishermen on the north shore of Nova Scotia and the New Brunswick shore from Cape Tormentine to Shediac took a tremendous hit.

Shediac harbour took a beating and they were further from the storm centre than we were. Since the storm, I found a section of the bush here that lost about twenty trees not more than a couple of hundred yards from our home. I'll but cutting the lot up for firewood.

Nowhere near Alabama. Sister used to live there though.
