Before the horrible 9/11 in the US, in Chile we experienced that date as a karma. The change of a whole generation of Chileans changed forever.
For Chile September 11th, 1973 meant the beginning of the rule of Pinochet a dictator that sent many Chileans to exile, that tortured and killed many others and that divided us up to this day.
The moment I heard Our President Salvador Allende talking to the nation, I looked at the Andes mountains se near and did not understand why they were still there or why, in that morning nearing spring, the birds had not stopped chirping forever.
Over 45 years later, there are still many families that never got together again. I was fortunate as none of mine died. But my sister lived in Europe for decades and my eldest niece stayed there. She will never come back.
In a day like this, I pity my Venezuelan brethren. There are many Venezuelan in Chile who have fled from their mother land. They welcomed Chilean many years ago. Now it is our turn.
