Dahlia Delight

I bought some rather sad looking little dahlia plants back at the beginning of the summer and, despite some of them doing extremely well during July and August, there were two or three that looked as if they'd come to nothing but it seems they've now decided to show me what they've got!
On the whole the ones that started to bloom earlier in the summer were yellows and pale pinks but I was delighted that this little chap decided to give blossoming a whirl. Its petals have a pale pink edge with a darker pink middle leading down to a bright yellow centre and I'm hoping it'll carry on blooming until the first frosts which we'll probably get towards the end of October.

I love them. Probably because my dad used to grow them and then cut them to sell in bunches in my mum's shop. I spent many happy hours following him round with my little basket ... I was probably about 6 or 7!

@JudyEv Various members of my family keep telling me I should put all my memories down on paper but I don't think they realise that in theory it sounds simple enough but in practice it's extremely difficult.

That is another late bloomer then :-)
The leaves look like candle flames (with different colours, since the flame has blue at the bottom and yellow at the top).
@crazyhorseladycx look at this late bloomer :-)

The plants didn't cost much - I got them through Amazon - and I was expecting to have mainly yellow and pink so I was very pleasantly surprised when this little beauty popped up!

@olliesmum how fortunate such can be salvaged year to year. our winds're too high fer coverin' with anythin' i fear. brilliant use 'f those bags! seems most all thingies 're made from plastics these days - none 'f which 're good fer the environment - from processin' to sittin' out'n landfills fer centuries.

They can do. I'm planning to cut them back when they've finished flowering and then covering them in some old plastic bags which I've accumulated. Plastic's an environmental nightmare but I end to recycle as much as I can in and around my home and garden!
