Why are blue-collar jobs frowned upon?

Many unskilled people and uneducated people opt for blue-collar jobs or manual labor-related tasks. In a democracy, every worker should be viewed from the same perspective. However, white-collar workers are always treated in the society better than their blue-collar counterparts.

"Many unskilled people and uneducated people *opt* for blue-collar jobs or manual labor-related tasks..." They don't *opt* for such tasks, they *have to* take them because they can't get academical jobs. Or are you suggesting that an unskilled person should be able to become a, say, physician, an engineer or a university lecturer if he/she wanted to? The way blue-collar workers and white-collar workers are treated is a different pair of shoes.

I think it's honest work for sure, but maybe doesn't pay as well as some of the white-collar jobs.

I think that it depends on your geography, many places where there is a majority of blue collar workers, they are respected, as they should be, just as much as a white collar worker is.

No reason to frown on anyone with a job, no matter what it is.

I don't know exactly why but I think it's to do with a perceived lack of success if you do a manual type job. Quite often I've heard people say do well at school or you'll end up working in mcdonalds...people may not aspire to be low paid manual workers but it is better than being on benefits and a drain on the state. Without blue collar workers every country would grind to a halt almost immediately so we need more respect
