Wanting the Money without the Fame

I remember a time when I just wanted to be a writer. Being young, I didn't care about the money. I wrote everything from poetry, songs, to short stories, etc. I even got recognized a little for my writing at a very young age but that's for another discussion. Then as I got older, I realized that I would have to find a way to provide for myself. It's known that there are a lot of "starving artists" out there and I definitely didn't want to be one of them. High school was the time that I was college bound and deciding on a college major... what is known as college prep focused. Also, my older sister was already in college when I was in high school. We were exactly four years apart in school... meaning when I was a freshman in high school(9th grade), she was also a freshmen in college(1st year). I looked up to my sister so she was an example for me to follow. She decided to major in business management in college. My mother worked in business administration, and my father was in the computers department of business. My father wanted me to go in his direction with computers. But after taking a computers class in high school, I knew that it wasn't a field for me. So I took an accounting class. I liked the accounting class and it was super easy for me. That's what made my decision for a college major. The only problem was even though I liked accounting... I didn't love it. I would have my moments when I enjoyed doing the work, but I soon realized that it wasn't my passion. Fortunately, there were many other classes I could take while in college. I took many arts and entertainment types classes while in college such as dance and theater. But I had to do well in my claimed major of accounting in order to graduate. After graduation, I found work in my field of study but wasn't happy among other things that were going wrong in my life at the time. I realize now that I should have stuck with my passion while I was working. To sort of make money now as a writer or anywhere in the entertainment field, you need to have some kind of following online or something, and you need to keep your contacts. This is what's difficult for me. Getting a following to accumulate the cash from the work behind my writing among keeping contacts. I realize now that I shouldn't focus on getting a following, but on doing the work and being better consistent on keeping contacts. I feel most lost when I'm not writing, so I know that's it's truly writing that's my passion. Now I just need to focus on that to monetize on my passion. I used to want fame with my writing, but I don't need that for the money. The internet shows many ways how to do it. I just need to execute.

Good luck with following your dream. I do think people who follow their passion are generally happier but of course you do need some money just to have a reasonable life.

@samysotelo I agree. It's definitely a weird stage in life. I'm older and now I'm disabled among other things. Fortunately I get benefits to survive but it's not enough money. If you're young, I feel at least you have the time and possibly less responsibility and definitely more energy to figure it out. I have a child to provide for as well as myself so I have to have some way to generate more income for the household in if I can't from my passion of writing. I really don't have the choice of just waiting it out to get money from writing. I have to find work in something to generate some kind of income. It can be very frustrating.
