1937 - J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit was published.
1981 - Sandra Day O'Connor became the first female Supreme Court Justice.
1947 - Stephen King was born. He is an American author and screenwriter. He specializes in horror, supernatural fiction, suspense and fantasy novels. He has sold more than 350 million copies of his books. He also writes under the name Richard Bachman and has received many awards for his writing. Some of his books (and movies) are Carrie, The Shining, Firestarter, Cugo, Christine, Pet Sematary, Thinner, It, Misery, The Green Mile and Under the Dome (made into a Netflix series).
1950 - Bill Murray was born. He is an American actor, comedian, producer and screenwriter. Some of his movies: Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Tootsie, Ghostbusters, Scrooged, Ghostbusters II, What About Bob?, Groundhog Day, Rushmore, Lost in Translation and St. Vincent.

@sallypup Yes, I've heard of both. Jonagolds are available in NE Ohio. I don't know about Gravensteins.
