National Bluebird of Happiness Day - I'm going to dedicate this day to CarolDM National Voter Registration Day - If you haven't registered to vote, get out there so you can vote on November 5! 1852 - The first airship powered by a steam engine travels 17 miles (27 km) from Paris to Trappes. 1929 - Jimmy Doolittle performs the first flight without a window, proving that full instrument flying from take off to landing is possible. 1936 - Jim Henson was born. He was an American puppeteer, filmmaker, inventor, cartoonist, animator, director, producer and screenwriter. He created the Muppets (1955-present) and Fraggle Rock (1983-87). He was famous for his characters of Kermit the Frog (see below), Rowlf the Dog and Ernie. He died in 1990. 1941 - Linda McCartney was born. She was an American photographer, singer and animal activist. She married Paul McCartney of the Beatles. After the Beatles broke up and Paul created Paul McCartney and Wings, Linda toured with the band, sang and played keyboard.
