The Bear Necessities

The Smoky Mountains appeal to a variety of individuals, for a multitude of different reasons. Some people come for the hiking. Some people come for the fall foliage. Some people come for the waterfalls (gee, who would do that ). Some people come for the overall scenery and natural wonders. But everybody comes for the bears. One of the highlights of anyone’s vacation in the Smokies is getting to see one of the black bears that roam through the park. Okay, my vacation was complete. On the way to Clingman’s Dome this afternoon I saw a young bear, happily nibbling on grass not too far from the pavement. It was blissfully oblivious to the gawking individuals in cars near it. As you can see, I admired it and took a picture, then went on my way. It didn’t look like a baby; however, by the same token, it didn’t appear to be an adult, either. I didn’t want to see mama bear come charging out of the woods!!!
