This story is so wonderful since Verne and his wife Carole King (I doubt that she is the famous songwriter) left their home in Spokane Washington in the middle of July to travel to Kalispell Montana for a brief vacation of four days and nights. One problem was that their female border collie dog Katie managed to run away from their residence in Kalispell into the mountain region. Since Carole and Verne were determined yo return to Spokane with their dog Katie, they decided to stay around in Kalispell for a few weeks to search for Katie. After a few weeks of using every method to find Katie which ended up being a dead end, Carole and Verne returned to Spokane. Katie who was employed as a U S Post Office mail carrier asked for some extra time to go back to Kalispell to locate her pet. When her employer refused to grant her wish to have more time to locate her pet, she quit her job. Then Carole returned back to Kalispell by herself since Verne agreed to stay in Spokane to take care of the home and their other pets, Carole had the good fortune of having a family in Kalispell offer her a home until she would find her pet once again. Just when Carole had given up hope to find Katie, two hikers in the area informed her that her dog was seen alive hiding under a tree. 57 days had passed when Katie who had lost 15 pounds and was dehydrated but healthy, reunited with her owner who thanks to the community in Kalispell and social media, she was able to return to Spokane with her seven year old dog safe and sound. Katie learned a lesson not to ever give up in her search to locate her lost dog since she had help from unknown friends who assisted her in making her dream come true to reunite with her pet dog.

What a coincidence! Past 6 in the evening last night, I saw my wife in distress. She's going to and fro in the street, calling for Spot. Spot was gone nowhere for he got from the house unsupervised. Only few people were in the street. All of them didn't see Spot in the street. After several hours Spot showed. We didn't know where did he come from. My wife hugged Spot and told him not to go far from our house. He might fall to a wrong hands and turn into a recipe for the day.

A lost dog or cat can be a very stressful problem. Thank goodness my cat Burt has learned not to run away from home for a long period of time.

@Nakitakona I know how your life feels when the cat leaves the home for a brief while.

@Deepizzaguy That's right. It's stressful. My wife is the one who is taking care and feeding Spot.

That's a great story but I'm surprised the dog didn't head for home. That's usually what they do.

I am also surprised since dogs like to come home after they leave the home.

I am so glad they were reunited. This story could have had a tragic ending.

57 days with Katie missing is not in favor of a happy reunion ending. Thank goodness the people of that Montana town assisted Carole to find my her missing dog.

@LindaOHio Even though I do not have a dog as a pet at this time, I like writing great dog stories.

You are right since dogs should know better to stay at the home of their owners.

I guess Katie managed to find someone in the area who fed her food and drinks.
