Visiting the uninhabited island!

From our house, we have sea views and we overlook an uninhabited island - no one lives there apart from rabbits and a few sheep. I have wanted to visit there, but have never had the time. Last weekend, a friend of mine and I made the trip over. We took his small boat and set sail, making the 3nm trip. It was great to walk around the small island, and admire the cliffs and see my home from this different perspective. We set up camp in the ruins of the monastery that dates back to the 1300's - only to find that my friend had forgotten his sleeping bag and tent. I was all prepared, cosy and warm, but, he was rather cold! A decent camp fire and a bottle or two of brandy kept the cold out!

Wow, visiting an island that you can see from your house sounds amazing. I see it was only 3 nautical miles away. Sorry that you friend had forgotten his sleeping bag and tent. Still you able to make a campfire and enjoy the bottles of brandy that you had taken them with you. My local town had two islands and years ago I visited the steep island. It was full of sea gulls. One day I fancy visiting the flat island that has a lighthouse on it.

Would that be Flat Holm and Steep Holm by any chance?

@Fleura Brings back memories! I was born on one side of the English channel and lived on the other side and had good views of them!

A chilly night with no sleeping bag! Sounds lovely otherwise.

Wow, visiting an island, how exciting. That must have been a thrill. Did you look for artifacts in the ruins of the monastery? Hope your friend was okay.

We live on an island called Eday, and the uninhabited island is called Calf of Eday as it's much smaller... You can walk around it in 2 hours!

Those living in monasteries in such places must have had it tough at times.
