You're not doing Anything

I have a neighbor who likes to monopolize my time. She comes over and complains that she has no food or her husband is acting weird. I tell her that I have work to do online and she says that "you're just fooling around, not doing anything." I missed my Bing searches yesterday because of her. I was at 180 days and now I have to start at day one again. I missed myLotting as much as I wanted on the September 30, the last day. Do people think you are doing nothing when you work online? How do you handle the constant interruption for no particular reason?

I don`t answer the door. I hang a sign outside stating " working do not disturb" I do not answer the phone. You can do this : Tell her you have a puking virus. Tell her you have to take a bath to get somewhere. Tell her you have cramps. OH PMS..... you don`t wanna talk to me today!!!!

@andriaperry I cannot stand anything hungry. If I have anything to eat, I must feed her, him, or them.

That is so rude of her! I would have told her that she can keep her opinions to herself and simply walked away. Even if that meant shutting the door in her face. I do not like when people say things like that about online work. They do not know and so they should not judge / claim things they do not know. I do not have the problem of people interrupting me, or atleast, the interruptions are very minimal. My family is aware of what I do and respects that I need to work.

@akalinus I wonder if maybe she is jealous? Sometimes people act that way when they are envious. I would ignore her the best you can, she is too negative.

@ScribbledAdNauseum She likes my house. She is always talking about my curtains and now wants my kitchen table and chairs. Who knows what next?

She was just over here. She started in on why don't you get off of the stupid computer line. I tell her it is how I work and I need the money I earn.

She's the one not doing anything about her plight, just simply yaking about it and wasting other people's time won't find her a solution.

I agree that she should work on her own solutions to problems. She just told me that she will come over at 3 am tonight to call to see if her money is in the bank. I told her to wait until morning. Sheesh! I hope she does not knock in the middle of the night.

I close the door and I do not go down to open. If I wait for no one, the door stays shut.

That is the best idea. I can't pretend that I'm not home because my car is parked in the yard.

@akalinus I do not care if they see the lights on, I do not open even if they insist.

@LadyDuck I need that policy. I have been dousing the lights in my room because if she sees them on, she thinks it is okay to come over. She knows they are bedroom lights. She lives next door.

I know. It is not just the neighbor, though. A lot of people think you aren't doing anything when you are home working. They think that you have the time to do whatever for them because you are not busy.

@akalinus What a coincidence!! I'm going to start a discussion on a similar topic tomorrow. The idea hit my mind this afternoon when a boy from my neighbourhood came to me while I was commenting back on mylot. He asked me about mylot. When I told him that we earn only a fraction of a cent. for receiving a comment or a like,he left saying ,"Why are you wasting your time?Do something useful."

That is annoying. I don't often tell a lot of people what I Do online, so it's really none of their business. In fact, I would be more vague in general. "I'm in the middle of something, you'll have to stop by later". Ha ha. I am rude like that.

You are defending your work time. Maybe it sounds rude but you need to earn as much as possible during that time.

I cannot tell that I "work" online. I am also on Bing Rewards, but I do not care about missing a day, it is not a big loss, I do my searches on Bing because it is not a time-waster, paid or not I would have done these searches. You should offer a laptop to your neighbor and give her some daily tasks to do in order to continue to chat with you. Bingo, passive income.

I am not buying a laptop for anyone. I need a new one myself. I use them until they crash or fall apart.

I would just not answer the door or I would tell her she has to leave because I have things to do.

@akalinus Exactly and I find that the minute I start to pray, everybody wants my attention, it is maddening.

I will just have to tell her that I actually am working, just like at a job. I would not call anyone at work unless it was an extreme emergency and an at-home job should be the same.

It doesn't happen to me at home very much, but at work people are always barging into my office and interrupting my work on the computer. I just ignore them and keep my focus on the computer. Eventually they get tired of waiting for me to stop what I'm doing and acknowledge them (which I try my best not to do). And then when they get up and walk out the door, I'll turn my head and ask them, "Did you need something?" And then turn back to my computer and keep right on working! It drives them nuts! lol

I have to get up from the computer and go answer the door. It disrupts my train of thought.

@akalinus So what would happen if you just ignore it and don't get up and answer the door?

Well, he does sign your paycheck, right? I figure that on a job, the employer is paying you for your time, so whatever!

Always! I always get interrupted and thought of wasting my time doing nothing on the computer the moment I touch it. Gets tiring after a while. Sometimes I feel like leaving the work altogether and sometimes I ignore them.
