On Monday my 7 year old went to the dentist. He has anxiety like his dad does. So my husband took him in understanding how far is to far to go with him. The dentist did his exam as best as he can with my son being easily stressed. He cried and they didn’t even do anything out look. He has one broken tooth that I have been worried about and it’s a baby tooth so he doesn’t need to keep it. But it was broken pretty bad but not causing any pain. I told my husband it’s bad enough that I’m not sure they would want to put the effort in filling it. My thoughts where correct they want to extracted which Both my husband and I agree is probably the best over all. So the doctor told us to get him in to another doctor and they gave us a number to calm they are pediatric dentist Specilist and they can put him understand so he is a sleep and get his tooth taken out, but a spacer in to his adult tooth can grow in there in a few years and do these small fillings that is need. This will over all be less stressful for him and his anxiety won’t be triggered.

I can understand his anxiety with it, but hope taking care of it will go well....that sounds like a good idea

I liked that they want to do it all in one go while he is a sleep so this way he doesn’t have to keep going back and having all this anxiety.

@ShyBear88 Oh yes, I agree for sure....that is what they wanted to do with my son for his fillings because of his anxiety over it

My daughter had severe anxiety about going to the dentist when she was little. They, too, had to put her under to do the dental work they needed to do. Thankfully, she's grown out of that anxiety (at least the anxiety of visiting the dentist), so hopefully the same will happen with your son as he gets older.

I hope the next appointment goes better. Yes, if they can put him under then he won't have to be as anxious. I do not blame him for being anxious with dentists, I never did like them as a kid either. I'm not a fan of them as an adult.

@ShyBear88 I hope you guys can find a way to help him through the anxieties without the necessity of medications. Are all of his doctors very patient and understanding with him?

@ScribbledAdNauseum most doctors are he just gets stressed so easy. His dad is the same way which is why he is medicated nothing works for him other then a routine medication

I can understand why anyone gets anxious seeing a dentist. At least the specialist will take care of the tooth problem your son has.

Yes. We are working on getting him in there to the specialist first we have to get through the insurance approving.

@ShyBear88 I see what your problem is now. Good luck with the insurance approving the deal.

@Deepizzaguy it shouldn’t be hard. Where we live most of the places take our exact insurance because my husband works at the hospital.

I know how he feels based on my childhood dental experiences.

I had a lot of dental work as a kid never liked any of it but I was never really scared of it unless it had to deal with needles. Now as an adult I just sit still. For a little kid it’s always scary

Hopefully he will cooperate while getting treatment, he will be fine after that. I think we need to make sure that children take care of their teeth and brush properly.

Little kids never brush properly it’s part of learning. My kids brush there teeth daily. Also genetics plays a part of it some people they can do everything right and just it’s not enough. We knew our kids are probably going to need dental work as they get bigger. I had a lot as child myself. But the good thing we are doing now vs when he is much bigger an an infection happens. When I noticed the broken tooth we jumped right on so we can get it fixed and not cause problems for hims

@vsai2008 no date yet we talked to the insurance first and they told us we need to go back to the first and get a written referral which is easy. Tomorrow we are calling the specialist and checking to make sure their places accepts our insurance and if not if they can tell another specialist that they trust. Once we have a specialist that takes our insurance I can take the name to his current doctor and get the written referral yogi e to the specialist and the insurance to get him approved. Once done with that we will set it for a Friday since he’ll need a full day to sleep and recover and two more to make sure he is feeling okay.

@ShyBear88 kudos to you for taking quicker action, it is much needed whenever we notice a health concern. When is the procedure?

Sometimes you have to accept that the tooth cannot be saved anymore.

I didn’t saw it could be saved. It’s a baby tooth so they could to a certain if we wanted to but it’s back tooth and they stay in a lot longer then your other baby teeth. Normally if something is wrong with a baby tooth they won’t fix or remove it. But it’s it’s back tooth they typically with fix or remove it depending on what is wrong with it.
