I never had an intake of my hypertension maintenance medicine after being complacent for how many days. I just monitor my blood pressure by regularly reading it every day with my device. For the past days, it’s normal and just read between 130/80 mmHg.
Past midnight, I thought that I was just tired so went to bed even if I never finish my work yet. I felt something is not good within my system and I did not fall asleep so I decided to take a reading of my blood pressure. I relaxed for five minutes and proceed. My blood pressure registered at 165/117 mmHg.
I used electronic device for quite a time and the reading is not far different using the manual Sphygmomanometer. So it must be high. I grabbed 2 Captopril in my kit and put it under my tongue. My BP slowly downed back to normal after the interval reading of 10 minutes within the 1 hour period. This morning upon waking up, I took my blood pressure again and it reads to 140/90mmHg so I should have my maintenance medicine back.
I’m not sure what contributed the sudden rise but the stress and unhealthy food choices might be the reasons. And it is true that we should not stop our maintenance when we already have that condition because it would hit us any time even if we believe that our blood pressure is under normal condition.

Oh boy I guess you should take the meds back in your system. I never had that high yet. My usual BP is 120/80 and seldom do I reach the 130s. I am having borderline high cholesterol already and my doc said that hypertension will be my next concern if I am not able to lower my cholesterol levels to normal.
I think all of the factors you've mentioned is the contributing factor to your BP. I think besides taking your meds you consult your doctor to better evaluate you and maybe prescribe some more meds for you.

I submit myself for lab tests every six months but I was not able to do it this September. Maybe this time. The last was January this year and I have pretty good numbers with regard to the result. There might be some changes along the way and that what I would like to find.

@rsa101 Thank you. My cholesterol level back then including the LDL and HDL have very good result that's why doc's told me that I have nothing to worry about with stroke and heart attack. I hope this time, it's still the same because I really gained weight.

Keep an eye on that. High blood pressure can do a lot of damage overtime. I am an heart attack and open heart surgery survivor and I know what stress can do to you! Take care of yourself.

@Happy2BeMe I just hope that lifestyle modification can help. I've seen a lot of people suffered from stroke and I do not want myself to include on the roster.

@ZedSmart yes...this is true. Even I'm bad at handling stress so I can relate to this very well

I don't monitor my blood pressure for a long time. The last was in March and the reading was 120/75.
