I am going to get myself in trouble if I am not careful

Financial trouble, that is. I've been watching youtube videos and searching out websites where I can buy beauty related items. I already ordered a whipped soap base and some fragrance oil. They are sitting patiently waiting for me to make them now that I have another container empty for the purpose of storing the whipped soap. I've seen lots of different melt and pour soaps and even lotion bases. I keep getting ideas on what I could make for myself, the household and for my friends. If I am not careful I will end up penniless. I'm only halfway joking... Do you make your gifts for others or do you buy them? Or maybe a little of both? Do you prefer receiving handmade or store bought things? Or a combination of both?

I like receiving homemade gifts but I buy gifts for others because I am not very crafty

I am not the craftiest either but I want to try. I've found bases for things (soap, lotion etc) which are painless. Just add the fragrance stir etc. I mean some you will have to only do at certain temps but that's easy to track as well. I used to buy things from etsy for family and friends. This year I really would like to make them myself.

Maybe you can make enough to start selling them if people like them enough. Then you can have fun making them while earning some money. I LOVE homemade gifts!

I've thought about that but I am not sure.. Maybe one day as I think that would be awesome. I already make wax melts but I am doing some trial and error there. One scent came out more prominently than other which might just be a thing with the scent itself. I love homemade gifts too, even if a person didn't make it themselves if they bought it from someone who did... I love that especially.

I like to receive homemade gifts. I offer a mix of the two, something hand made and something bought.

My favorite homemade thing to receive is something like a cocoa mix, apple cider, or a tin of cookies or pastries. Of course I like soaps or things that have been sewn etc. Are your homemade things food related or other craft related?

@LadyDuck Oh I see. A sachet of lavender could also be placed in the pillowcase to help a person sleep.

If I have the time and resources, I make them. I like it that way. It feels more special

I agree, it does feel more special to make gifts for friends or even to receive things that friends have made. Handmade items takes time, effort and can sometimes cost more than just going to get something from the store. It makes it more precious.

@ScribbledAdNauseum True. I agree that it can sometimes costs more than those you can buy in the stores but the feeling is really good when you give people something you made

@ScribbledAdNauseum You will do fine you have done your research on it and like you said as long as you stick with the melt and pour stuff you should do ok.

@Tina30219 Thank you for the confidence boost. I am really excited to try this out. I'm more worried about the colors as I want to add colors (micas) to the things I plan to give as gifts.

I'm somewhat nervous about crafting some of the things I want to craft but I've been doing lots of research and think I'll be okay. Especially if I use melt and pour bases which require only a colorant and fragrance.

I'm always grateful for any gift but I especially love when a friend makes something or buy something handmade. One friend will buy from a local store here that makes their own soaps, pottery etc.

@Michellekidwell Yes, it's just something special when the people we love make things. Especially gifts from our little family members.

Yes, I agree. I can vaguely remember helping my mom with crafts but I would love to be able to do something like this with friends.

@ScribbledAdNauseum You bet! The possibilities are endless with handmade cards. I use cardstock, construction paper, ribbon, glitter, stickers, whatever I have on hand :)

I've seen some very pretty handmade cards. I think they can be a lot of fun since the possibilities are endless. Do you use cardstock to make yours or just construction paper with different mediums?

It can be hard to pick out gifts, even those we handmade. People have different tastes, and I think that people are more likely to want money now anyway. Even with this in mind, I prefer to give homemade gifts.
