Really Walmart!?!

So I know this is happening all over the place now, almost at every Walmart and so on.. They have the greaters at the front door that want to check your receipt to make sure your not stealing anything. Ok well I went to Walmart today to get a few things and the greater is standing right next to me and PJ as we are checking out. He still stops me to ask for the receipt and I ask why is this and what makes you ask me and not other people. Gets my blood boiling because they pick and choose who to do this to. I refuse to show him anything and told him I know my rights and have a nice day. I know that they are doing the job the Walmart tells them to do but don't pick on certain people and let others go..not right at all. Rant over

A friend and I were at walmart together once and my friend had her receipt in her hand. The lady said "No, thank you. Only if you have things unpackaged." I've been to that same walmart with everything packaged and still gotten stopped. I've also been waved away. I've had two different transactions, one with a receipt on my phone and one with a physical receipt and only one receipt was checked. I've been ignored completely. I find that if I acknowledge the greeter they tend to not require my receipt. If I have it in my hand they do not need it either. It is only when I do not have it readily available.

@hillhjill That would be very annoying, I agree. It makes me wonder what they are told. If they are supposed to stop a certain number of people per shift or just what the requirements are. You could call and complain to the corporate people. I am sure if enough people provided feedback they would atleast think of changing things. I know that this is meant to help the loss and prevention teams but even so... I do not like to think of how it will be at the holiday times. I am glad I do not shop at walmart for Christmas, or atleast not very often.

As I was walking out I had the receipt in my hand with my wallet in plain sight. The greater seen me scan and pay for everything and still stopped me.

@ScribbledAdNauseum it was very annoying and I could call but they probably hear it all the time and don't care. Christmas time is going to be crazy and I don't shop at Walmart much either..just for a few things.

I agree with you....that's not right to check some and not all. Here they don't have the greeters anymore at our Walmarts.

Yeah they should stop or do it right, it's not fair. We didn't have the greaters for a very long time and then one day they just popped back up and stare at you as your walking in the building like a hawk.

@hillhjill I agree....and oh ok...so yours did stop too for a while. Some of the greeters I didn't mind, but some were definitely annoying and rude!

Security does that here in Manila malls and supermarkets. Not in all malls but it is a prevalent practice. I just show my receipt and then go on my own way.

@hillhjill I understand your point and how they pick to people whom to ask is shady. Obviously, they target certain people and I'm not cool with that.

I understand that it would take just a minute to show but the way they handle it or pick on certain people is not right. So I will stand for my rights and refuse to show something that's my property.

@allen0187 same here, I think they just pick on us that have a certain look to us or something.

I've had many times where they've checked ours, but also many times when they haven't. So I guess they do pick and choose.. but doesn't really bother me. it's a two second thing, and then off we go.

That's good that it don't bother you. I have seen many people get upset of it and I'm one of them.

That's the way it should be and not just stop us because we look suspicious or not dressed up.

It was totally annoying! Usually I will put my things in the store box outside the front door. It is free to store things and without problems happening.

@hillhjill however, it is a little bit inconvenient since you need to take it out after shopping.

In the international supermarkets here such as S&R and Landers, that checking of the receipt is SOP. When I asked about it, the reply is to make sure that we had everything that we paid for.

It's impractical to stop everyone. Plus, the random stops act as a deterrent themselves to would-be thieves. I just flash the receipt and shuffle out.

I could do that yes, but if you're standing right next to me while I'm checking out and you see I pay..no need to stop me.

That is wrong. They should check everyone if that is their job. Not just who ever they want.

It's very wrong, they think we look suspicious. But I have been studying my rights and all the amendments. So they can argue all they want.

Now if I seen him stopping everyone then I would take this differently, but if your picking someone out because they look different or something then no.
