After a one-day reprieve from the new wave music we return! Actually, the next two days will be spent with acts who made their marks beginning in the 80s. Don’t know if you’d call these acts “new wave” or whatever. Here’s the first one.
#7: Spent the Day in Bed - Morrissey
Y’know, I didn’t care much for the Smiths “back then.” Morrissey, their lead singer, just annoyed me with that whinyass voice of his. Now, however, I have a better appreciation of them, and him. Someone pointed out that the Smiths and their mournful dirges were to be taken about as seriously as Randy Newman’s songs.
I voted for the Smiths in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame “fan vote.” I mentioned them in my recent list of acts overdue for induction (as did @teamfreak16 when he did a similar countdown). I’ve even used one of their songs (well, a cover) in a countdown (“Work Is a Four-Letter Word,” supposedly the song that broke the band up because Johnny Marr didn’t see the humor in covering a 60s pop song).
Okay, enough of that. This is partly protest (“I recommend that you stop watching the news because the news contrives to frighten you”) and partly humor (“no bus, no boss, no rain, no train”), and it’s the typical upbeat pop that Morrissey’s been known for since the early 80s.
This time, though, I think he might be serious about the benefits of staying in bed. He certainly makes a good argument!

I used to wonder if Morrissey actually realized that he was hilarious.

I'm playing the link in the background. I'm not familiar with the song or the group.
