I discovered that mature shredded coconut is delicious! It could be a healthy snack; eaten raw and tastes sweet and creamy. I eat it along with boiled eggs to "kill" the taste of boiled eggs which had become part of may daily meal, aside from meat and sea foods. I also eat a little amount of vegetables like cabbage, lettuce and cucumber. One can really be creative in thinking of ways to make his meal healthy. It is also cheap.

I had a coconut once. I had fun getting it out of the shell.

It is hard to get it from the shell; we use a special shredder to extract the meat.

@tech40 but it is getting costly now because many of the farmlands had been converted into housing projects.

I had it when I was a child and shortly after eating it came down with the flu or some virus. To this day I don’t care for it, but will have it shredded in cake or candy.

We as kid use to eat portion of the shredded coconut prepared by mother and we always ended up reprimanded.

I have never had fresh shredded coconut. We can get dried coconut flakes here, which are somewhat nicer than the finer, dessicated coconut and it's possible to get frozen fresh coconut, I think, in oriental stores. Coconut is used a great deal in 'healthy' snacks and energy bars and coconut milk (as a substitute for dairy) is widely available.
