Tennis Anyone?

Actually, I've not played tennis since I was in school which was over forty years ago, nor am I interested at this time. But, I do keep a tennis ball on my nightstand. Do you have any idea why? Have you heard about this before?
I do windows for a customer that has a business doing massages for her clients and we discussed her fees. The problem I have is I don't know ahead of time when I would need a massage which makes it hard to make an appointment. I do see a chiropractor and right now I'm going twice a week but sometimes I'm not able to see him when I need to because of one of my jobs.
The person that does massages mentioned to me that I could use a tennis ball. I looked at her weirdly, I'm sure. She said when I'm in bed to put one under my back. Sometimes that works wonderfully other times not so much. I think when it doesn't work it's when I don't move it to another spot or have it in the wrong spot. It's a trial and error thing.
I had a curve problem that became worse before my surgery on my second knee. The curve has a name although I don't know it but it curves differently than other curves. My chiropractor doesn't think it will get much better but I believe it already has. I personally think it might be caused by my trying to make sure my posture was straight after seeing shy girls walking bent forward like they thought no one would see them that way. I was quite shy at the time but didn't want to be perceived that way.
Since I've been getting adjustments twice a week that's been much better. Another issue I have is my pelvic bones ache. It's the bones under the fatty part of the butt. It may be due to being a bit overweight or arthritis but I believe it is worse from going to physical therapy after my first replacement and the therapist trying to force my knee into my hip to manage the 45 degree angle. (For that one I never did get to that desired angle when going to PT, so my leg want literally being shoved to my hip but it felt that way.
It's possible that area would be hurting on its own but I think it's due to therapy. I didn't allow them to do that motion in my recent knee surgery.
I'm not sure whether the adjustments are helping that or not but overall they are helping and the curve doesn't hurt as much. On days when I can't make it for an adjustment I've begun using the tennis ball a bit more. I think it's helping at least some. It won't replace adjustments yet though.
Has anyone else heard of this or tried it yourself?

I don't know anything about this but I knew a couple of people who used a roller type for their back and swore by it. I see that it is also available here and I believe you can roll it along any body part to help get relief especially the neck it looks like this

@MarshaMusselman yes, I did and it's available on sites like Amazon I was not sure of what it was called and asked for a wooden rolling back massager

@RasmaSandra thanks, I will look that up and check it out. My husband needs some adjustments too but his wouldn't be free since he's not met his deductible yet for the year.

@MarshaMusselman My back sometimes hurts, but I also have some exercises to do when this happens.

@LadyDuck I was given some to do too but I keep forgetting mostly. Although I will get a good stretch in while sitting after standing a long time. Although I'm concerned that others will think I'm fainting so I don't do it too much when away from home even though that's when I need it most.

Once my back is better I may get maintenance adjustments monthly and then shouldn't need to use the tennis ball any more.

I may well buy a tennis ball today. It is not an idea I ever heard of but I can see how it might work. When I finally learned my neck pain was due to a growth of bone resting on a nerve in my neck I researched on youtube and found excersises that help widen the gap between the joints so the bone is not sitting on the nerve. This has helped greatly as I was needing painkillers almost daily. What seems to help is knowing where the problem is and why it is happening. I also massage the area with a wooden massager so maybe the tennis ball will help.

Just be careful. I have used it a little when my neck was tight and I didn't like the results but for me it was more of a crook in my neck. I mentioned that to my chiropractor and whatever he did it pretty much took care of it.

Is it hard to keep the ball where you want it and not have it roll down the wall? Maybe I'll try that way too sometime.

@MarshaMusselman no, it doesn't fall. But I really only use it on one spot so I don't have to move much. I should try in bed.

@paigea when my back is really sore I try to move it around. The only problem with that is I may not get as much sleep because I try to remember to move it before falling back asleep. I also have a memory foam mattress and I think after a short time the mattress might envelop the ball so it's not doing it's job in a sense.

An actual massage is much better but not always available.

@thelme55 now if a family member can do one that's cheaper.

@MarshaMusselman I agree with you. It is an expensive treatment to have a massage every time we have back or body pain.

I think you should follow the doctors advice completely

I'm not sure what you mean. I understand your words but...
The person that suggested the tennis ball isn't a Dr, I don't think. She's a massage therapist. Possibly in some countries they are Drs but not here. When I told my chiropractor who is a Dr about using a tennis ball he jokingly responded with, or a baseball, volley ball etc. But he didn't recommend that I not use the tennis ball.

@MarshaMusselman that is fine then. Muscle injuries should never be taken lightly

I have pain in my shoulder blades a lot. It may help to try a tennis ball like you suggest.
My posture is absolutely horrible which the PT thought was a lot of the issues with my shoulder how bad I hunch. I feel weird standing straight because then my chest sticks out. This reminds me I wanted to see about buying a posture support thing.

Everyone's chests do stick out when standing correctly. If we wear a good undergarment that shouldn't be an issue. It may take some getting used to that posture position but hopefully it will benefit your back a lot.
Paige used the ball when standing at a wall. That may work better for you although you may needed help putting it into the right area until you get used to it.
I think it works best for areas of muscles. When I've used it in bony areas it doesn't feel as good. I think it's because when out bones are out of whack our muscles tighten up which in turn make out bones hurt.

I read it from the net; as a remedy for sciatica; good thing I didn't have that issue now.

Well now if you hear someone talk about it you'll be familiar with the idea.
