The first half of the day I work with a young man who requires very structured scheduling. He has medical needs, and developmental needs. We schedule "choice" activities into his day so he can enjoy himself and as a reward for working. He loves to play with puppets and pretend kitchen and food stuff. This in spite of the fact that he cannot swallow and is tube fed. Our principal is very involved throughout the school. He came by during choice time. Mr. W. sat on the floor and played with this kiddo. . . talking in different voices for the teddy bear and raccoon puppet. . . "gobbling up" lettuce and bread and spaghetti (pretend) from the toy plastic plates. The giggles were great. So that is a "picture" of a good part of my day. I cannot legally give more details or put up pictures, but I thought I would share this little bit.

It must be a hassle working with such a young man .Happily the principal helps you with it sometimes.

We can count on our principal to provide help in almost any capacity in the school. My job is specialized so I always work with children who have physical and mental handicaps. It can be very challenging.

@changjiangzhibin89 Yes, I have worked with the adult disabled when we lived elsewhere. I have worked with persons who have disabilities from very young to very old.

Eventually they hope to have his issues and digestion straightened out. He gets to "taste" things by using a mesh bag that you load food into and he chews it and can swallow the liquid or flavor. He can drink from a water fountain. He loves to have salad in his mesh bag and he loves to play with the fake lettuce leaves for play. It was funny to hear the principal make funny voices for the raccoon and teddy bear and slurpy sounds while they ate the lettuce.

We have very caring and engaged staff all the way around. This was great. My morning student has Down syndrome, and the principal has a son with Down as well. Not as many health issues and not as many behaviors, but he does have a good connection with the little guy I work with.

Sounds like an awesome place to work. This warms my heart when even the principal gets involved with the students on more than just an administrative level.

He is very involved all the way around. I have not seen him do cafeteria work, yet. I bet he would if needed. He gets out from time to time and helps with the mowing around the school.

Yes, they are. My afternoon kiddo got to learn badminton. We have a substitute aide in PE who shows great interest in my special needs kids and she played with him and had him laughing.
