So....I hear you wondering. "What can top a Warren Zevon song on the hillbilly's list?" Why, hillbilly music, of course! Here's the next song on my list of favorites with the word "bed" in the title. (And this entry should make the #1 song obvious as well.) #2: Bed of Rose's - Statler Brothers No, not bed of roses. The use of the apostrophe to indicate possession is quite correct. My mom sort of objected to little ol' me listening to this song. I was ten when this song came out, and its lyrical content was a little on the "controversial" (or "adult") side. C'mon, Mom, country music's been singing about adultery since its origins! Here we have a hungry 18-year-old being ignored by the good church folk as he begs for money. So, who helps him? The town prostitute ("a woman of the streets, this lady Rose")! Apparently she gives him more than food ("I learned all the things that a man should know from a woman not approved of"), and it blossoms (pardon the pun) into romance ("she died knowing that I really loved her"). One of the Statlers' best songs, and one of my favorites of theirs for decades. Even if I was too young to understand it when I was little! Bed of Rose's Written by Harold Reid Recorded by the Statler Brothers From Bed of Rose's, 1970 With no parents of my own:
