Water spinach or locally known as “kangkong” is a green leafy semi-aquatic vegetable. Green leafy vegetable are known to be a good source of nutrients. Like fern, I use to eat stir fried dish out of this vegetable when I was young. It was when supply is just picked from our backyard garden. Nowadays, although I would like to prepare a water spinach dish, I won’t dare any more because I do not have the assurance where those vegetables sold in the market actually picked from. I can figure out those very nourished water spinach grown in the canal in front of the hospital structure. Photo Credit: pixabay.com

When we buy kangkong, we soak it in water for 30 minutes at least so as to remove the clinging dirt.

It's still good to know where it source from. Maybe, I'm just over sensitive when I remember those kangkong growing in the canals of hospital building.

Well I still eat those in our meals. My wife would usually buy them at the grocery already. I think they are pretty safe and so far clean to look at. We just wash it doubly before we finally cook it. I think those that are sold in the wet market is a bit risky as you are concerned about its source.

@ZedSmart Haha.... I do not think that those in the malls would not sacrifice their reputation to sell those coming from the canals for profit.

@rsa101 Yes, for sure. As I've said, it's me who's overreacting.

It maybe safe when it's from the mall's supermarket but something really in my system is overacting when I remember those kangkong in the canal, luscious and green and well nourished.

I didn't buy kangkong in the Philippines as we have them in our yard. I wouldn't dare to buy them in the market as well because I don't know where they got them.

We have the same suspicion Ms. T. It's better to be safe than sorry. I do not like the idea of getting those where source is not known to us. Gross!

I love spinach, but the water source is very important. Otherwise, we can become very ill.
