Spotting A Little Fella...

Other day I really needed to be out by the river that runs near to here and across the road.
I needed to feel the sunshine and admire the big tall trees and listen to the falling water nearby.
Did not think that I was going to spot much really as its quite a quiet river when undisturbed.
So out of nowhere came this bird.
Actually I reckon its some kind Egret he perched himself on a branch across the other side of the river.
I managed to get this not very good photo of him as the side of the river I was on was more shady and I could not get close to him through so many trees that there are there.
He flew off again not one bit bothered by me being there so gracefully and landed on another branch further up.
I took the best picture I could as the sun was also in my eyes a bit further up and was quite pleased with the end result of it.
Maybe somebody here knows what kind of bird it is apart from me thinking its some kind of Egret.

Very nice of you to put the link.
Thank you and I think it could be a heron but there again it had dark grey leg and I have seen a couple of images of herons and egrets and they seem to have almost the same colour legs too.
Quite confusing, to an expert they would know him right away but I am no expert but its flight is so graceful to see.

The most you ever really see of them all is in the Marismas a huge set out space of land in the South of Spain its a lifeline for all wildlife that like California suffers so much from fires and the like.

@lovinangelsinstead21 yer welcome, hon. 'twas hopin' 't might've cleared the confusion. 'tis diff'cult to tell, sometimes jest the lightin' makin' shadows adds to 't. i know here i try to take's many pics's possible, from 's many angles 'n hopes 'f a proper i.d.
back'n the hills, we'd beautiful blue herons. they nested out'n a lil island 'cross a huge lake. i could literally sit fer hours, watchin' 'em. here we've sandhill cranes. they're 'lso very elegant'n flight.

Wow, dear friend, you captured another moment with an angel. In the form of a bird. Call it an egret or whatever but that moment with the bird is exclusively yours. We are privileged only to know your story as your virtual friends.
Yes, dear angel of a friend, they say that angels manifest themselves through feathers, but here, you have a feathery friend posing for you. Love your story very much.

Glad you like it.
He or she is so graceful and just stood there sort of like posing.
I have not seen it since then and I keep looking out for it.
So light in flight and me I would want to be as graceful as that.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I wish I could have such encounters,too.
Perhaps if you desire deep enough, your graceful bird will make another apparition.

Think I saw it today but it was much harder to tell as it stands very still and it was quite far off.
Very grey day also.

Everyone seems to recognize it other than me... I have never even heard of an egret!

I did not know what the bird actually looked like itself.
I think I was maybe guessing when I did take the photo of it.
So you are not the only one.
A white egret is somewhat bigger than the one in the photo but its a fishing bird so it does not look much like a heron either.
I was just excited he turned up.

There must be different kinds of egrets as it has the same flight as the big white egret but this one is smaller and greyish on its back and flanks.
Thank you.

I am thinking the same but I am not sure I will try to see if Vijay knows if it is he is very good at photography of animals mainly birds.
I think a Heron would perhaps have a longer sharper beak.
So graceful to watch as well.
