My second stop on the covered bridge tour today was in Bean Blossom, in Brown County near Nashville (Indiana, that is) and the beautiful Brown County State Park (Indiana's largest and most visited state park). As with the Shieldstown bridge (previously discussed), there's a lot of "private property" signs in the vicinity of the Bean Blossom bridge. I didn't drive over it, but did walk it. This bridge crosses Bean Blossom Creek in Bean Blossom. Not a lot of originality in the names, is there? It's about 101 feet long. I had to visit this one because of the town's music connection. Although Bill Monroe was from Kentucky, he had his legendary bluegrass music park in Indiana. Guess where? Bean Blossom continues to host bluegrass festivals, as well as an annual salute to John Hartford in June. The scenery was gorgeous along the way, with the foliage showing more color than in the southern part of Indiana. While Bean Blossom isn't that far north (it's about 30 miles south of Indianapolis), a few miles can make a lot of difference with the colors....especially given the dry conditions we've had this year. As you can see in the photo, this bridge isn't in good condition. In fact, a website devoted to bridges (Bridge Hunter) lists its condition as "poor." This bridge, although eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, is not on the list. Built in 1880, it could use a lot of TLC.

Terrific photo, but I certainly would not want to drive a car over it.

This is more what I'm used to seeing in a covered bridge. What a neat picture!
