The popular rock group The Doors was part of the Los Angeles music scene at the beginning of 1967. At this time they were the house band at the Whiskey a Go-Go on the Sunset Strip and were fast becoming popular. All The Doors needed now was that one great hit that would make them known across the nation. Then came July 30, 1967, and on the Billboard Hot 100 was their smash hit “Light My Fire”. This song made the band into international pop stars. After the song hit the number one spot as a single it sold more than one million copies. But being international pop stars also meant that band member Jim Morrison began an erratic lifestyle of heavy drinking and drugs for the next four years leading up to his premature death in July 1971. However, The Doors did become legend among other top rock groups of that period. After “Light My Fire” they came out with other hits such as “People Are Strange”, “Love Me Two Times”, “The End”, “L.A. Woman” and “Riders on the Storm”. The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

@RasmaSandra He is buried at Pere Lachaise. There are crowd rails to keep people from getting too close plus a guard. The cemetery has expressed a preference he was not there. In that same cemetery are 100s of the famous like Edith Piaf and Oscar Wilde.

Nice song from a legendary band. Why so some popular rock band members ended like Jim Morrison. Maybe its the lifestyle when they become popular.

Nice write up! Who would of thought a chance meeting on Venice Beach, Ca. between Ray and Jim would lead to the beginnings of such a terrific rock band
