Queen is a British rock group formed in London in 1970. Their earlier genres were progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal. Gradually they incorporated arena rock and pop rock. Their lead singer was Freddie Mercury. You can find out about him and the band by watching "Bohemian Rhapsody", a movie named after one of their hit songs.
"We Will Rock You" (below) and "We Are the Champions" are often heard at sports competitions. Their 1981 album, "Greatest Hits", is certified 8x platinum in the United States. Mercury's last performance was in 1986; and he died in 1991 of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS.
Brian May and Roger Taylor have toured as "Queen +" with vocalists Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert. Estimated record sales range from 170 million to 300 million, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists.
