It's 1993; and Erin Brockovich is a single mother with three children. She has recently been in a car accident with a doctor and is suing him. She wears a neck brace. Her lawyer, Ed Masry, had expected to win the case; but Brockovich's attitude during cross-examination loses the case. Masry now refuses to return her calls.
One day he goes to the office and finds Erin working. She tells him that he told her they would win the case, they didn't; and she needs a job. At first he protests, but eventually gives in.
For her first project Erin is given files for a real estate case. PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric) is offering to purchase Donna Jensen's home in Hinkley, California. Erin can't figure out why there are medical records in a real estate file. To get some answers she visits Donna and is told that she just wanted to keep all PG&E records together. You see, she appreciates their help. She has tumors; and her husband has Hodgkin's lymphoma; and PG&E has always provided them with doctors at their own expense. Erin wants to know why they would do that; and Donna replies, "because of the chromium".
I love movies with courtroom drama and a situation in which the little guy is up against the big corporation because the big corporation did a bad thing. There is plenty of courtroom drama in this movie; and the little guy is pitted against the big corporation, PG&E. Will the little guy win? Will PG&E win? This is an excellent movie with an impelling true story; and I highly recommend it.
This movie is rated R.
