Frank Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915, in Hoboken, New Jersey. He was an American singer, actor and producer. He was one of the most popular and influential musical artists of the 20th century. He sold more than 150 million records worldwide and became one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Sinatra began his career in the swing era with band leaders Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. In 1943 he signed with Capitol Records and became a solo artist that was popular with the "bobby soxers". In the 1950s he went to Vegas and became part of the Rat Pack. He left Capitol in 1960 to start his own label, Reprise Records. He had a string of successful albums with this label. His music genres were traditional pop, easy listening, jazz, swing and vocal jazz. He never learned how to read music; but "Ol' Blue Eyes" was a big hit. Some of the movies he appeared in: From Here to Eternity (won an Oscar and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor), Man With the Golden Arm, Guys and Dolls, High Society, Pal Joey and Tony Rome.
