"Good Morning, Vietnam" is a comedy-drama war film that was released in 1987. It was written by Mitch Markowitz based on a story by AFRS radio DJ Adrian Cronauer. The movie was a critical and financial success with $123.9 million in box office receipts against a $13 million budget. Most of Cronauer's broadcasts in the movie were improvised by Robin Williams. Williams won a Golden Globe for Best Actor-Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. The movie was #100 on "AFI's 100 Funniest American Movies". CAST Robin Williams - Adrian Cronauer Forest Whitaker - Edward Garlick Tung Thanh Tran - Tuan Chintara Sukapatana - Trinh Bruno Kirby - Lt. Steven Hauk Robert Wuhl - Marty Lee Dreiwitz J. T. Walsh - Sgt. Major Dickerson Noble Willingham - Gen. Taylor Richard Edson - Pvt. Abersold Richard Portnow - Dan "The Man" Levitan Floyd Vivino - Eddie Kirk Juney Smith - Phil McPherson Cu Ba Nguyen - Jimmy Wah It's 1965 and the war in Vietnam is escalating. Airman Second Class Adrian Cronauer arrives in Saigon to work as a radio DJ for the Armed Forces Radio Service. He previously worked on the island of Crete and was very popular with the servicemen. Cronauer's show will consist of reading strictly censored news and humor segments mixed with Rock and Roll. Second Lieutenant Steven Hauk and Sergeant Major Phillip Dickerson don't care for his demeanor, his humor or his music. Lt. Hauk, however, has a hobby of humor and thinks he's as funny as Cronauer...which he's not. Brigadier General Taylor and the other DJs like Cronauer and his comedy. Cronauer immediately runs into trouble for playing Rock and Roll music which is considered subversive in the war environment. He spouts out various characters of his own invention, celebrity impressions, criticism of the war effort and of American elected officials. Garlick takes Cronauer to Jimmy Wah's, a bar popular with the servicemen. After meeting Jimmy Wah, Cronauer catches sight of a young lady in white out on the street. Garlick tells him that fraternization with the locals is strictly forbidden; but Cronauer buys a couple of bikes and both men take off after her. If you want to find out what happens next, you will have to watch the movie. Williams is outstanding in the role of Cronauer and does an excellent job of improvising dialogue, which is quite funny. I recommend this movie. This movie is rated R. Photo Credit: Free Images

I have rewatched this movie about two weeks ago, some parts are funny, but there is a lot of sadness too, corruption, dumb people placed at the top of an army. Sad! Robin William was excellent.
