Consciousness controls all. (At least, it is possible for it to do so)

“Our unconscious mind is making 95 percent of our everyday decisions.”
I have seen this claim being bandied around the Internet.
Our unconscious mind handles digestion, heart rhythm, regulation of blood pressure, and dozens of other functions, that our conscious mind leaves to it.
Can our unconscious mind also run other unconscious programs, though, which control our ways of thinking, acting, and being?
Can our unconscious mind override our conscious decision making, at times, or not?
Can we act consciously unthinkingly in our following of these past programmed programs?
Everything is consciously being assessed.
Even our unconscious functioning's are a part of our conscious awareness too, when we wish them to be.
Consciousness controls all, not unconsciousness, which is merely a tool of our mind, and brain, for performing routine tasks, and carrying through mechanistic actions in our body/mind.
This has been proven many times, by some of these Yoga masters, who can even consciously control their heartbeat.

Is this cat deep in conscious, or unconscious thought? Which one is it?

The cat is very conscious. That's why he's alert.

Yes, I think that too. Animals can be conscious, and they can think. They are not just reactionary creatures, responding to stimulation.

@Nakitakona At least, they are alert and alive in present time.
Sometimes, us humans are thinking too much of the future, or the past.

@innertalks animals are generally prone to responding to stimulation. That's why they're active and alert.

Whenever I get in an excitable mood or I have too many things on my mind one of the outside cats that live here in the garden and the house some in and sits looking at me and then I look at it and I am all calm again and everything falls into place,

Yes, cats look so thoughtful at times, that they stop us from thinking.
Any holiday from overthinking tends to calm us down.
When we overthink things, are we thinking consciously, or unconsciously, though?
This is usually where there is conflict between past programmed unconscious responses, and rational conscious thought.
One chases the other around and around, and nothing is achieved.
Something that stops this process of continual spinning of thoughts calms us instantly from the stress of our chasing our own thoughts like this.

@innertalks I am glad that you think that way. It is like humans that need the basic need first.

Yes, you are probably right. The simple answer is usually the right answer.

@Shavkat Yes, the basic needs must be met first, and then anything else will follow that.

Very interesting topic as consciousness and alertness get enmeshed with programed alertness needed for basic survival and physical body preservation.
Animals are survivors and have no society back up - maybe some like elephants are the exception - siva

Some insects have elaborate societies though, like ants and bees. Different types of bees play different roles in their societies.
Yes, we can be alert, without being necessarily aware on all levels. Humans have the chance to be aware at many levels of awareness, opened up to them from their consciousness, I think.

@innertalks We have the luxury of charting our own paths on how to live but other species have limited choices, it looks like. Then we can also think, worry, and dream about the afterlife! siva

@innertalks In the Lion King movie, there is a conversation that says lions eat antelope and in turn, the antelope eats the grass that the lions ‘become’ after they die. So the karmic effect cancels out in a way!
I may be prejudiced being a vegetarian all my life to say I feel good about my choice but that is only part of living here. Those immersed in rituals can get carried away but they have to follow up with a good and loving heart which looks a tough act for most! A guiltless life is what I try to ride through and it is the softest pillow and a panacea for many sicknesses of the mind and the body - siva
