I don’t know why this mother cat mistaken her kitten as something else. She’s maybe that hungry to eat those newly born poor kitten. We have noticed this stray cat for sometime roaming around in our area. When she gave birth to her kitten, it looks like she’s not allowing it to grow because instead of feeding them, they devour her own breed like mice.

Well, also the dogs can do this as well as any animal. Mother bears, felines, canids, primates, and many species of rodents have been seen killing and eating their young. Most times this happens when the mother realizes that her young are not healthy and could not survive.

Some domesticated animals still have that ancient instinct when they were still in the wild to keep their nest sanitized and free from germs and protect the stronger offsprings. It's survival of the fittest in the wild so the weak are eliminated to protect the genetic pool.

@ZedSmart she trusts her instincts, animals don't just kill their same specie much less their offspring because of propagation of specie if there is no good reason based on the rules of nature and not based on how humans perceive it.

I was saddened to read this post but it seems there may be a reason.
