If you were an Italian Assassin in a past life, you may have used this weapon.

The ear dagger is a dagger so named because of the pommel (very end of the handle on a sword or dagger) which is ear shaped to allow a better grip when using it. This dagger was first introduced in 14th Century Italy, where assassins as well as royalty might have worn this weapon. It is thought that the weapon was introduced to Europe through Spain. The yataghan (A Turkish blade) and the shashqa (Cossacks blade) share a heritage with the ear dagger. Have you ever seen one in person? Source: Google / Wikipedia and the linked site.

I have never seen one and I have never heard of this dagger in Italy. I am searching and I finally found the Italian name "Sfondagiaco dalle orecchie", that was the kind of dagger used by Andrea Lampugnani to kill Galeazzo Sforza.

I had never heard of it either. I think that the pommel is ugly, though I suppose it helps with grip and thus does it job.

@LadyDuck It is a weird but beautiful weapon. I do not like to think of how it might have been used in battle or in assassinations. I think I'd rather think of it as being a ceremonial weapon.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It does not appear to have been very common and it seems that it is more German than Italian.

Yes, it is. I've seen other photos of it (besides what I've posted) and it's gorgeous. I wouldn't mind having it in a case somewhere.

I probably have never seen such a dagger unless in a museum sometime.

I've been to a few museums, but I don't think I've been to any with weaponry.

@Janet357 Oh really? I had never heard of that. You mean a man or woman with a sort of pointed, jutting out chin?

@ScribbledAdNauseum hahah you know, it becomes a joke here that when they see someone with a long chin, they call him or her mango or dagger
