Nickelodeon Theatre

United States

The Term Nickelodeon was not first coined by the popular children's television network here in the US. The term originated at the turn of the 20th century, between 1905 and 1915. It was only a nickel (5 cents) to catch a show. The "Nickel" part of the name was due to the price being only 5 cents. However, "odeon" comes from ancient Greek " odeion" which is a roofed over theater. In 1949 the term would take on a new meaning. Stephen Weiss and Bernie Baum wrote "Music! Music! Music!" with the lyric "Put another nickel in, in the nickelodeon". In this case, a "nickelodeon" is a coin slot music / jukebox. Source: Google / Wikipedia (reworded by me)

I thought it was kind of cool. I used to watch Nickelodeon when I was a child in the late 80's early 90's, that's what caught my eye when researching.

It's interesting. It would be cool if they brought this back, if only for a limited time, and if only showing films that are very old.

Cheap in our standards, but I bet a nickel was still pretty expensive for those times.

@samysotelo18 I was trying to find the different prices for things in that period but I couldnt' find anything in my preliminary search. I feel like I've read before that a nickel was the cost of a dozen eggs at that time.
