The Dreadful Event

Imagine that it is December 1893 and you are picking up your copy of The Strand, eager to read the next installment in The Sherlock Holmes series. Except, instead of it being just the NEXT in a series, it's the last. Dr. Watson narrates "It is with a heavy heart that I take up my pen to write these the last words in which I shall ever record the singular gifts by which my friend Mr Sherlock Holmes was distinguished. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had enough. He was tired of Sherlock, sick to the stomach of him even. 20,000+ subscribers to The Strand magazine were sick themselves, disgusted that Sherlock had been killed off. The magazine held on by a thread, nearly done in by "the dreadful event." Enthusiasts of the story were said to have decked themselves in mourning dress, though this may have been a rumor started by Arthur Conan Doyle's son during an interview. Either way, the crowd was in an uproar over it, and it is said that Doyle was shocked over the torrent of verbal assaults thrown his way in regards to Sherlock's death. It would not be until 1903 that Sherlock was resurrected, and Watson was once again at the sleuth's beck and call. Are you a fan of Sherlock Holmes? I am! Source: Google

@TiarasOceanView It took me an episode or two to get used to the switch in Watson's. I wasn't exactly a fan of the switch at first.

I started watching the Sherlock t.v. serial but didn't like it. I liked the one the BBC did from the late 80's to mid 90's.

I have a paperback copy of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes as well as some fan written spin offs involving Dr. Watson and Mycroft. I'd like to get a hardback copy of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes though.

I met Sherlock Holmes in our literature class During that time it is more of American stories that we discussed in the classroom. Our classmates even have a nickname for him, we call him Shirley.

Shirley? I guess because it's short for Sherlock?

I am picky when it comes to watching Sherlock. I have a favorite series, but I have watched two or three movies and liked it. I recently watched Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock and I liked it.
