At my apartment building there is a bookshelf in the common area by the laundry room. It's a take a book, leave a book type of a thing. Mostly it's populated by romance novels, and Reader's Digest volumes. However when I went to do my laundry yesterday I was greeted by a green hulk of a book. "The Giant Book of Essential Knowledge" 1957. So I gave it a new home. Inside it is inscribed in red ink "To Carolyn from Santa 1957" A few pages in there are bits of black and yellow embroidery floss. And further in there is a 4 leaf clover , pressed There are some great illustrations in it. But these things make me wonder - who is Carolyn? How did life turn out for her? How gave the book to her? Where was she when she found the clover? What was the best thing she learned from the book? Such things are treasures Photo: Mine - the clover I found in the book

It seems a very interesting book. It is nice that you have a bookshelf in your apartment building.

@FayeHazel I think that is the ideal thing to do with books, after reading one it should be shared.

It's cool, has a dictionary, history, atlas, bunch of other things. The bookshelf is a nice idea - I donate some and take some

So many mysteries that probably will never be solved. I’d love that book!

So true. Alas no way to find out who Carolyn is. So nice to know someone else treasures these things too

You do have to wonder about these things, don't you? I hope she had a happy life.

Carolyn had gleaned all of the knowledge she was able and passed the book on. The ball is in your court!
