Be One of Us #20 - "Field of Tall Flowers"

Two days in a row. I'd better pace myself! This is Be One of Us, a random 50-song countdown of songs with "of" in the title. We are at #20: "Field of Tall Flowers" by The Comsat Angels.
It occurs to me that I have a lot of favorite bands that are of the "great band that never got the recognition they deserved" type. And I do love me some Comsat Angels, a post punk band formed in 1978 in Sheffield, England. And you guessed it, the Angels never quite achieved the popularity that they should have.
In fact, despite landing a tune ("I'm Falling") on the soundtrack to the classic 80's Val Kilmer comedy, Real Genius, they were dumped by their label, Jive Records, and were having difficulty finding another. Until the late British vocalist Robert Palmer mentioned during a television interview that he had been enjoying The Comsat Angels album, 7 Day Weekend, prompting Island Records head honcho Chris Blackwell to sign them.
During their original seven-year run (they reformed for a year in 2009,) The Comsat Angels jokingly apologized for "inventing goth" with their song "Ju-Ju Money," had to change their name to C.S. Angels here in the States after a 1982 lawsuit by the United States-based Communication Satellite Corporation who claimed that "Comsat" had been trade marked in America by them (never mind that The Comsat Angels had the name first,) then changed their name to Dream Command for an album, and suffered the loss of original bassist Kevin Bacon (no, seriously, that's the guy's name,) who split to produce records for other artists.
But damn, were they a great band. Or as BBC film critic Mark Kermode said, The Comsat Angels were "the band that Joy Division should have been."
So yeah, there's also that.

Another great song by The Comsats from their 1992 album "My Mind's Eye". No copyright infringement intended of course.

These guys were really good. They just never quite made it big. Especially over here.

An interesting history - I listened to it, liked it, reminded me a bit of "Blood and Roses" - The Smithereens

I don't the band or this song at all. They have the transitional 80s to 90s sound here.

They didn't have much of a following over here. Unfortunately.
