"Jurassic Park" is a science-fiction adventure that was released in 1993. The screenplay was written by Michael Crichton and David Koepp based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg. This is the first movie in the Jurassic Park franchise. The movie was well received by critics and has won more than 20 awards. Budget for the film was $63 million; and box office receipts plus the 3D release in 2013 equaled $1.03 billion. CAST Sam Neill - Dr. Alan Grant Laura Dern - Dr. Ellie Sattler Jeff Goldblum - Dr. Ian Malcolm Richard Attenborough - John Hammond Bob Peck - Robert Muldoon Martin Ferrero - Donald Gennaro BD Wong - Dr. Henry Wu The first scene takes place on Isla Nublar, a fictitious small island 120 miles off the coast of Costa Rica. One worker is killed while construction workers and animal handlers are attempting to offload a large container. The next scene is an amber mine in the Dominican Republic. Miners are involved with a genetic-engineering company called InGen. They find a large piece of amber with a mosquito inside. The third scene is at a paleontological excavation in Montana. Dr. Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, his assistant, slowly uncover remains of a Velociraptor. Grant believes that dinosaurs evolved more from birds than from reptiles. Just then their main sponsor, elderly and eccentric billionaire John Hammond, shows up. He invites them to endorse his latest project, a remote island resort with "unique biological attractions". Reluctant to leave the dig, Hammond entices them to go by offering to fund their work for three more years. Grant, Sattler, eccentric chaos theorist Dr. Ian Malcolm and lawyer Donald Gennaro who represents investors, arrive by helicopter. They get to witness living, breathing dinosaurs; and the visitors are awestruck...except for Gennaro. Gennaro says, "We're gonna make a fortune off this place...". Later they tour the central resort and control facility. InGen has succeeded in cloning animals from strands of DNA taken from the blood of dinosaurs in mosquitoes captured in fossilized amber. They also visit the egg-incubation room and get to see the birth of a Velociraptor, This deeply disturbs Grant who wants to see where and how the adults are housed. If you want to see what is going to happen next, you will have to watch the movie. This movie is full of action and sends your imagination on a special trip. I have watched this film a half-dozen times. The box office receipts of $1.03 billion tell the story of its popularity. I highly recommend this movie. This movie is rated PG-13. Photo Credit: Pixabay
