How Old Are Your Christmas Decorations?

Christmas decoration done! Yes, it is and I am also tired. I hung the Christmas lights in the living room windows, decorated the room and put up the Christmas tree, well the plastic one. While hanging the Christmas decorations I felt nostalgic because some of the decorations are more than 3 decades and reminds me of the time when my son was still a baby. I still have those wooden train, windmills and other wooden Christmas tree decorations which my baby son hung when he was still a few months old. Everything I have hung reminded me of my early life as a young mother in a then foreign country Germany. Do you have old Christmas decorations at home? How old are they? Do they bring back some good old memories in your life? Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day/evening.

All my Christmas things are many decades old. They come from the Erzgebirge. You may know this part of Germany. It is in the south-east corner of Germany, in the former DDR. There is a small town called Seiffen which even has a Berufschule for the people who carve figures out of wood or make pyramids which turn round and round when burning candles send warm air to the top.

That is a very beautiful Christmas pyramid @MALUSE. I don´t have that but my late parents-in-laws had it. I wonder where that thing is. Yes, I have heard about Erzgebirge but I have never been there. We have a huge Christmas pyramid in our city every year and I have not seen it yet, this time. Thank you.

I know how you feel. Most of our ornaments have a special memory attached. I guess our oldest ones are a little reindeer and a little bear that our son received when he was a baby. That was 50 years ago!

@thelme55 We can buy new ornaments, but none will replace the ones with such special memories.

I love being able to look at and enjoy the older decorations. I have some that are from the 80's and 90's. We used to have some from much earlier than that, but i am not sure where they are.

@thelme55 I bet those that are not sold are worth a lot of money. Personally, I like the older ornaments because they have a look and feel to them that the newer ones do not.

I have had mine forever. Most of mine are from Germany. I got them in the 1970's and 80's . Some belonged to my grandma and mama.

We don't really have any special ornaments; and now we just use a very tiny artificial tree with lights on it.

Our Christmas tree is on its 3rd time to be used. With the lights, we have around 12 to 15 sets that do not last long, sometimes just 1 year so we buy again. With the trimmings, some are more than 10 years old.

That's great you have wonderful memories attached to your ornaments. I have three very old ones. They hung on my parent's Christmas tree. One I made when I was in Girl Scouts decades ago. Last year I decorated the fiber optic tree, not this year.
