I have to give my respects of doing what is correct in life to 29 year old plumber Joey Hansen who was leaving his job in Manhattan to go his home by crossing the Brooklyn Bridge when he stopped to encourage a 24 year old man who was ready to jump off the bridge and into the river below to end his life.
New York Police Department officers were at the scene of the incident trying to talk to the young man not to jump off the bridge when Joey simply told the 24 year young man something to the effect of :Taking his own life is not worth it. He can turn his life around."
The words of Joey were powerful enough to convince the man not to take his own life as he turned around from the ledge and walked into the safety of the roadway on the bridge.
The New York Police Department officers took the young man to a local hospital to be evaluated for his mental problems.
Joey learned that people who want to end their own lives just need some words of encouragement that they can overcome their personal problems that life throws at us.

Good thing that he still convinced him to change his mind about ending his life. I think most of this people are close minded already especially for those that are determined to do it. I think this man is really not set in his mind and just wanted someone to say something that would stop him from doing it.

@Deepizzaguy Yes I know there are those that are closed already and are determined to do that. But like many deep in their minds and heart they may just be wanting to hearing some keywords to stop them.

The would be jumper just needed someone to tell him that life is worth living and that taking his own life was not worth it. You are right that some would be persons who want to take their own lives will do it regardless of any words of encouragement.

@rsa101 It is a case by case basis. Just hope that the right button is pushed to save a life.

I'm so glad Joey was able to convince the man not to jump and saved his life.

joey was amazed that the other drivers who passed by the young man who wanted to take his own life acted like they did not seem to care for his problem outside of the police. Joey did encourage the would be jumper that he has a great future of him. It worked.

Some people without the guts to take their own lives, just live their life out, numbed to the core.
These people are even worse off than this young man. They have not got either the guts to live, nor to die, and their lives probably will never be turned around before they do eventually die.
It takes guts to turn your life around too.
This guy must have had some of that hiding in him somewhere too, which sparked alive again with Joey's encouragement for it to do so.

That is true since the would be jumper must have been scared to even jump off of the Brooklyn Bridge when Joey told him to think about being someone who has a great future.

@Deepizzaguy Especially, at his young age too. He has plenty of time to make his future great, and if he tries to, others are usually around to help one to do this too.
