I saw the serial Cernobyl and made me curious to search and find out a lot of thing about what happened there. There was a major accident at the nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986 Was composed of an explosion of the boiler, followed by radioactive contamination of the surrounding area This disaster is considered to be the worst accident in the history of nuclear energy. A cloud of radioactive rainfall headed to the western parts of the Soviet Union, Europe and the eastern parts of North America. It is difficult to estimate a precise number of victims produced by the events in Chernobyl, because the secrecy in Soviet times made it difficult to count the victims. The Chernobyl Forum report from 2005, led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO), attributed 56 direct deaths (47 workers and 9 children with thyroid cancer) and estimated that more than 9,000 people of the approximately 6.6 million very exposed may die from cancer. The report cited 4,000 cases of thyroid cancer among children diagnosed in 2002. The Chernobyl accident injected 400 times more radioactive material into the earth's atmosphere than Fukushima (Japan), several times the amount of radioactive material corresponding to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs.

I had watched Chernobyl the series a few months ago. I was a young man when it happened and I hate how the USSR tried to cover up the the whole incident and sacrificed her own people.

@iuliabardas01 in fact that thing they used to cover could rot and collapse and radiation would leak out again and it would be more difficult to reseal it

I do know about this..scary stuff..I live withn 5 miles of a nuclear plant. The only minor trouble they have had there is when there was an earthquake nearby. They had a reactor thrown offline, and a bit of melting too I think.

The USSR will always cover up everything. They do not care about their people. It is sad for the whole world when things like this happens.
