Handmade or Store Bought?

United States

Hello myLot. Christmas is coming, it's right around the corner and I'm not ready! I'm making most of my Christmas gifts for people this year. A few family members and friends have asked me to paint something for them but even though I started a few months ago, I'm still behind and I'm running out of time. I probably shouldn't be on myLot right now Have you finished your Christmas shopping? I suppose it depends on the gift but do you prefer to make gifts or buy them?Or do you prefer to receive a handmade gift or a store bought gift? Again I guess it depends on what the gift is that you're giving/receiving but I prefer to make my gifts or get a handmade gift. To me it means the person took the time and effort and thought about me for more than two seconds. Makes the gift a little more special to me. Also I'm broke so spending a lot on gifts isn't a big option. What about you? Image is mine. A resin craft I made last year using a real crab shell and shells from the beach!

What a beautiful display of shells! I love how you made the crab. I am not as gifted as you, so I prefer to buy gifts or give cash to certain people.

thank you, Dianne :) it's probably more convenient to buy something and cash is always a good gift if you're not sure what to get. I'm stubborn

Every year I go to a big holiday craft festival here in town (in fact, I'm going today), and in most years that's where I pick up a lot of the gifts I give out to friends and family. Although I don't make gifts myself, I do prefer to give homemade gifts over mass-produced store-bought gifts. I think it just gives a more personal touch to the gift, and also shows you put some thought into what gift to give someone. Plus, I love helping out locals by purchasing their wares.

ooh I didn't think about local craft fairs, maybe there's still a few I can hit before Christmas.

@isweartokira I was able to find three awesome gifts at the craft fair I went to yesterday. I know the people I give them to are going to love them!

I agree, I would much rather have something that someone took the time and effort to make instead of just buying it. Your picture/craft/shadow box? is really nice!

I'm very happy to have a home-made gift. Sometimes I make gifts but not very often.

Maybe they needed money so they tried to sell their design. It's beautiful, it's something i can put into the wall.

I like the item that you made in your image. That is really nice. Homemade is always good.

It depends on whom I have to give the gifts to. I usually give a homemade gift to a person who appreciates a homemade gift.
