Nikolaus and Santa Claus they have similar outfits, They are two different people. In fact, many religious family’s try to focus more on Nikolaus earlier in December to ensure that Christmas is actually about Jesus birth, and not presents from an Americanized and commercialized Santa. children set their shoes out on the night of December 5th Nikolaus comes in the middle of the night and leaves little gift like coins, chocolate, and toys for good children. And for the naughty children get something to remember about their behavior. But it's always depends on the family tradition too. Did you celebrate Nikolaus? Or do you have similar like Nikolaus?

I have heard of this..the lines blur between St. Nicolas and Santa Claus, but the earlier version is probably better.

I remember when I was a boy, my parents would leave our shoes in the doorway and in the morning there would be treats and money. Maybe that's the same tradition.

I've never heard that religious families focus more on Nikolaus during my long life as a German in Germany. Nikolaus is folklore, not religion. We have four children in our house between one and five years old. The boyfriend of a young woman living in our house was the Nikolaus today. It was a great success.

I still prepare a Nikolaus tote bag full of delicious goodies for my son although he is an adult now. He will get it when he comes next week. I almost forgot that it was a Nikolaustag but thanks to you, you reminded me of that. Goodnight.
