Those were the words that my half conscious half subconscious brain thought up. These two words were meant to be a keyword, something to help me remember my previous dream as I slipped back into dreamland. Instead, I slipped back into a continuation dream of sorts. Last night I was on my way to Cherokee, NC for a bit of a vacation. I was looking forward to the trip, but it was a bit of a surprise and so I was also slightly off put by it. I arrived and enjoyed taking in the scenes and absorbing the sounds of daily life there. Then I woke up. I know there was more to that dream, but I can't really recall it. When I fell back into dreamland, I was there again but with different people than I had been previously. It also seemed as if I had found myself a job up there, and I was a bit frazzled with all the new tasks that were put on me. Then we were going back down the mountain, down to the Piedmont where I am from. Except, I was wearing a beautiful ball gown type of dress. I was wearing a crinoline, and I had a baby on my hip part of the time. I found myself living with the people that were once my co-workers, but instead we were students again. I know I dreamt a little more, but I began to wake up and now I am here. It appears as if I did some time travelling in my sleep. Did you have any dreams you remember from last night?

An interesting dream for sure. I only remember some parts of a long dream. We were traveling in a place surrounded by high mountains. I remember that I wanted to stop to eat something, but all the restaurants only served food outside and it was too cold to want to stay outside. I wonder if I was not warm enough while sleeping.

It sounds like you may have also been hungry. If I am searching for a bathroom, or for food, I usually wake up feeling hungry. As for feeling too hot or too cold, these are rarities for me in my sleep.

@LadyDuck I sometimes wake up hungry. This usually happens on days that I eat dinner especially early.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I never feel hungry during the night, that is something that never happened.

If I remember any dreams I have had, it is often quite hazily and only for a few moments after I wake. There are one or two dreams which I still remember 'clips' from quite vividly but I cannot remember the rest of the dream or what the real import was. Usually the bits I remember seem to be those parts where I was lost (in the dream) and desperately trying to find my way 'home' (wherever that was - it's not usually any place I think of as 'home' when I'm awake). Most of the dreams I remember are about places where I have never been or even that I know from photographs - urban landscapes with canals and tall buildings and parking lots and small shopping malls, none of which I remember even seeing pictures of, though they must be based on something I have seen somewhere. The people, when there are any, are never (or rarely) people I have met, though once I had a dream involving a person I know quite well online but have never met in person. I don't think that I've ever travelled in time much, except that I usually seem to be rather younger than I am now - probably in my mid 20's or mid 30's, though age is not something I think about at all in the dream itself. Dreams are very curious things. The incredible detail they sometimes have (at least, mine do) seems to be a smokescreen to distract the mind from the real issue the dream is trying to deal with - even in dreams, it seems that the multiple layers of the subconscious are . In my case, the central problem always seems to be being lost and trying to find my way 'home' or 'back' to some place but there seems to be no image of where 'home' or 'back' is!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I've heard it said that even the most complex and long-seeming dreams only take place in the last minute or so before you actually wake up.

@owlwings Yes, I have read that before as well. A dream that seems like hours can take place only 30 seconds before you awake. I know, atleast in my case, I am less likely to remember a dream if I woke up during the night and fell back asleep.

I have had those types of dreams of being lost before. It seems that in those dreams there is a long road with very little on either side of it. The 'home' is also not something I have ever lived in or would recognize. There was once where time travel and being lost intermingled. I was trying to find my way back home but with each mile I walked I would find myself in a different year or time period. As for the landscapes, they are often indistinguishable from any I have seen before, but my subconscious assigns them as being "where my grandparents grew up" or "where I lived as an infant." People are often assigned a relation to me or a face, but their names aren't the same as they are in my waking life. Dreams are complex and varied. It has been years since I've done any research on them, but I can recall some theories that scholars have had on why we dream, how long we dream etc.

No, and I am thankful for that. I was watching the most gruesome crime show ever on the ID channel last night and even though things like that don't usually bother me, this case was particularily stomach churning think a bit along the lines of Jeffrey Dahmer and was worried about having nightmares when I went to bed. I almost watched some Frasier to sanitize my brain, but luckily I didn't dream.

Whenever I read or watch something that is gruesome or terrifying, I try to listen to music or watch a few minutes of a different show. I know how my brain works and the likelihood that I'd dream about it is high. Glad you didn't dream about that though, that would have been terrifying.

I don’t remember last night’s dreams. I’ve been to Cherokee a number of times. I love that place, especially that Oconaluftee Island park. I’ve spent hours there, just enjoying it!

Never been to Cherokee. I've only been past Asheville once. I would love to see Cherokee though.

@FourWalls I am sure one day I will make it out that way. My friends and I had bounced back and forth about going to Tennessee this year but that never happened. I'd like to make a girls trip to TN though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum — it’s very quiet, especially compared to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Sad, in a way, to see abandoned businesses. But it’s still beautiful. Minho Falls is near there, and simply amazing.

My dreams are often very weird. Last night I had a dream that my grandmother had killed a man while we loading some things up in the back of a truck. I do not know what the items were, but I recall having to go to the library to return an overdue book.

Yes I dream of lending 2 million to a person without any guarantee and was bothered if they return or not but when I got up I remember not having even $10

Perhaps in the dream the person you were lending the money to was yourself?

@Butterfingers I am also similarly broke. I have a little more money but most of it has to be designated for a bill coming at the beginning of next month.
