"Lake House" was released in 2006. It was written by David Auburn and directed by Alejandro Agresti. It's a remake of the 2000 South Korean film "Il Mare". CAST Keanu Reeves - Alex Wyler Sandra Bullock - Kate Forster Christopher Plummer - Simon J. Wyler Ebon Moss-Bachrach - Henry Wyler It's 2006 and Dr. Kate Forster is leaving the lake house in Madison, Wisconsin, that she has been renting and is moving to Chicago. She leaves a note in the mailbox for the next tenant to have her mail forwarded. She also states that the paw prints were already there when she arrived. It's 2004 and Alex Wyler arrives at the lake house and finds Kate's letter in the mailbox. The house needs repair. There are no paw prints at this point. During the repair process a dog runs through some fresh paint. Alex writes back to Kate, asking how she knew about the paw prints because the house was not occupied when he arrived. It's Valentine's Day 2006 and Kate sees a traffic accident near Daley Plaza. She runs across the street and tries to save the male victim; but she's unable to. On an impulse she drives back to the lake house, finds Alex's note in the mailbox and writes back. The flag on the mailbox goes up and down as Kate and Alex continue to exchange notes. They finally realize that they are living two years apart. When I first heard about this movie, I didn't think that I would like it. The plot seemed just too incredulous...but this film works. It's sweet, it's romantic, it's dramatic and just a little eerie! You root for these two getting together...but will it ever happen? It seems unlikely. A sad ending perhaps?
