When will this ruthless greed stop?

A poor person, with little education, and who is struggling to make a decent earning.
But he or she is still a human being.
Nobody - no matter how intelligent, rich or powerful has the right to exploit them.
Yet this exploitation for greed, for meeting own desires even at the cost of others' lives continues.
In a recent incident, a shabby manufacturing place and godown in a congested area in Delhi had a fire.
The unit also housed many workers.
The fire took place in early morning hours, around 4 am.
The Fire Brigade was alerted almost after one hour. Yet their operations were hampered by narrow lanes and curious onlookers.
The Fire exit was narrow. The firemen even had to carry a few injured on their back.
43 workers lost their lives.
The factory owner and the manager who tried to flee have been arrested.
This news was flashed on BBC World News as well.
The law would take its own course.
Yet what bothers is the greed of such business owners and their associates.
The workers knew that the unit was devoid of proper safety rules. Yet they had no option but to continue as their livelihood depended on it.
And the corrupt safety inspectors - they too are guilty for not taking action or for taking bribe.
I feel these folks should be pronounced guilty in speedy trials.
Else poor yet honest folks would suffer in a way worse than even animals.

Yes very sad indeed but makes one angry as well. Everyone has some greed, but unabated greed at the cost of others' lives is not acceptable.

And when someone gets away with such acts, it us more frustrating.
But folks in India are getting more aware gradually and more such acts are punished but it is taking time.

Yes and then when one talks of India becoming one of the next superpower, I feel that we must first improve the overall quality of life and then talk of other things.
Having big roads, ports, airports, malls and big military bug with millions living pathetically is not acceptable.

Yes and we have many more such factories across India.
It is not as if we cannot have better work places- we do have better places as well but it is the greed and apathy of many factory owners who exploit the workers due to their lack of sufficient education and lack of other employment opportunities.
The workers in this case were aware of the safety hazards but did not protest the poor conditions.

Yes and some convicts in such cases even try to use their political connections to escape being held guilty.
Corruption is a big factor.
The corrupt officials who allow such factories to continue should also be punished.

My Heart hurts each time I read about such, or hear. So many heartless people in our world. I agree with you and I feel they should be punished on the spot not wait for a trial.

Yes the guilty must be quickly punished, and punishment must be doubled if they try to manipulate the case.

And the innocent poor who were probably not even paid judiciously suffered the most, and their families as well.
