Comcast had to pay!

I believe that comcast is available in my area but it's not something we've ever used here. I've heard that the service is shoddy and that people often complain about plenty of outages.
Apparently, the service isn't the only reason to complain about comcast. The State of Washington made Comcast refund nearly 50,000 people once for a $5 / month protection plan that did absolutely nothing.
Comcast was also fined $9M
The $5 / month charge was meant to go towards any potential problems that technician would need to come out and solve for the customers. However, the plans was so limited that it didn't cover half of the reasons that a technician might need to visit.
Furthermore, customers were paying for this plan because they were told it was a requirement. However, Comcast had a customer service guarantee that covered, for free, most of what the $5 / month plan was charging for.
This was resolved in 2018.
Do you have comcast?
If not have you ever been charged for a plan like this, without being able to reap it's benefits?

When we lived in Manassas ,Virginia we had Comcast, When we first signed our lease I called to price and sign up. Got the information about our price and when the tech was coming out to set us up.That all worked fine and it very rarely went down,, but when we got our bill it was 3 times more than what they said it would be!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I called and tried to get it straight and was told sorry that's their prices and to basically get over it.
In a couple of months I got it turned off!

Oh that would have made me very mad. Did you call and get it straightened out, or did you just cancel it?

I worked for a third party who took calls for Comcast.
I liked taking those calls.
We set up installs for tv, internet and phone, resolved billing inquiries and booked trouble calls.
The rates were expensive.
Comcast was big into swag, we used to get something every week-shirts, canvas bags, cups, travel mugs, stress balls......there was no end to the stuff that they sent to us. They should have saved their money and cut their rates for their customers.

Oh wow, yes definitely. Or sent some of that swag to the customers. Also, I feel like you all would have preferred a Tim Horton's gift card, or gas money or something else instead of so much swag!

@Juliaacv That was rather generous of them. I guess they wanted to make sure people would stay on. Was it a Visa type card?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Beggers can't be choosers.
The first year that we were open, the owners of the company (not Comcast) gave us each a $50 gift card. I thought that was rather generous given the fact that we only opened in November of that year.

@ScribbledAdNauseum You have to watch it with hotspots you go over on those and they charge you up the butt

@Tina30219 Mine wasn't so much the charging up the butt as it was the customer service tech lying to me, or not following through. I called to cancel and they said "Okay, but if you do this it will be cheaper and you won't have to pay such and such month". I get the bill for that month and call and bless them out. They fixed it for me atleast.

I've had several options over the years. My least favorite was a Tmobile hotspot.

My relatives had Suddenlink as our cable system after Direct Tv had this problem of getting a signal during a thunderstorm which knocked out the signal until the weather was clear once again. .

I've heard of suddenlink but I don't know much about it. Is it the most basic of cable?

We don't have Comcast. What we have is PLDT which we have a very poor service from them. Their telephone service works good but as an Internet Service Provider we have to bear their unsatisfactory kind of service.

@Nakitakona Oh I see. You aren't the first person from the Philippines to complain about the services there. It seems they need to offer better services.

I don't, but they can't be any worse than stupid Direct TV. I have Dish now, but can't wait until I can change my internet provider..It would be nice,If I could some sort of streaming..but I will have to talk about it with roomie, not sure how that would work, if he would be willing to have less channels. It probably wouldn't be for awhile anyway.

I think Youtube TV has 90 channels at the moment for $50.00. I could be wrong, but I think that might be a good cord cutting service if it does have 90 channels. When / if you get to that stage just message me, I've tried several different services and can give you an idea about it.

I could be wrong, but I think it's fairly new down here, and not widely used.

I'm glad we have lots of options here, I wouldn't want to have to deal with a bad company.
